Blind Box

Blind Box vs Whole Set: Which Should You Buy?

Every Pop Mart product page on todo.fun has the same two options: Single Box or Whole Set. Both are legitimate, but they serve different collectors for different reasons. Here's how to decide.

What each option actually is

Single blind box: one sealed box from the series. You don't know which of the 12 (or 6, or 9) figures is inside. Price is the figure MSRP, typically $15-25 depending on series.

Whole set: a full case of the series, usually 12 boxes. You get one of each figure in the lineup. Price is MSRP times the count, though we typically offer a small case discount when available.

The math on secret pulls

Most Pop Mart series have a "secret" or "chase" figure at a pull rate of roughly 1 in 72 (some series 1 in 144). That means if you buy single boxes hoping for the secret, you'd need to buy 72 on average to pull one. At $20 per box, that's $1,440 expected spend just for a shot.

A whole set of 12 does NOT typically include the secret. Whole sets guarantee the 12 regular variants. The secret is a separate pull that requires either buying the same case multiple times or trading/buying the single secret on the secondary market (which can run $80-300+ per secret depending on series).

When single boxes make sense

  • You love the surprise. The whole point of a blind box is the reveal. Some collectors feel whole sets defeat the fun.
  • You only want 1-2 favorites from the series. Buying 3 boxes and trading duplicates with friends can get you what you want cheaper than a whole set.
  • You're testing a new series. Don't commit to 12 boxes of a series you haven't seen in person. Start with 1-2.
  • You want TikTok content. Unboxing videos need reveals. Single boxes are native content.

When whole sets make sense

  • You want every figure in the lineup. Guaranteed completion, no duplicates to deal with.
  • You're building a display. Display cases look complete with all variants in order.
  • You want to save money per box. Case pricing beats individual box pricing in most cases.
  • You hate gambling. If the randomness stresses you out, skip it. Whole set = known quantity.
  • You're gifting. Whole sets make incredible gifts for fans of a series.

What about the secret?

Our recommendation: don't chase the secret through volume buys. You'll almost always come out behind. Instead, buy the whole set for the lineup, then decide if the secret is worth the secondary-market price once you know the series in person.

Some whole sets do include the secret as a bonus (we'll flag this clearly on the product page when they do). If the series is hot, the secret adds meaningful value and the price reflects it.

Our suggestion for new collectors

Start with 1-2 single boxes from a series that catches your eye. Use that to judge the scale, paint quality, and vibe in person. If you love the series, graduate to a whole set of the next drop. If you don't love it, you're only out $40, not $240.
